Stump Grinding Cost: What Shapes Your Price
No mystery pricing. Here's exactly how we figure a stump grinding quote, and what makes the number go up or down.
The short answer: typically $300 per stump
Most stumps we grind come in at about $300 each. That's the number to plan around before you call.
Your final price is confirmed with a free quote — we can give it over the phone from a photo, or walk the yard with you on-site. You'll know the number before any work starts.
Several stumps on one property
Got more than one? Send the count and a photo of each. We'll quote the whole list at once so you see every stump's price before we unload the grinder.
What we look at when quoting
These aren't price tiers — they're simply what we check so your quote matches the job:
- Stump size — diameter at ground level
- Root flare — how wide the roots spread at the base
- Number of stumps on the property
- Tight access — backyards reachable only through narrow gates
- Steep or soft ground, like river lots or wet lakeshore
- Frozen ground in deep winter
- Surface roots that need grinding beyond the stump
- A long dedicated drive for a single stump
Optional add-ons
These are separate so you only pay for what you want:
- Hauling the grindings off site
- Soil backfill and seeding so the spot grows back into lawn
- Hauling away wood, brush or grindings — about $50
- Full stump removal (root ball dug out) instead of grinding — quoted free on request
How to get an exact number
Text a photo of the stump with something for scale (a tape measure or shoe works) and your address. For most jobs we can give you a firm price from that. Bigger jobs get a quick site walk. Quotes are always free — over the phone or on-site — and we give them in writing.
