Our Stump Grinding Process
Six steps, no surprises. This is what happens from the first text to the last rake pass.
1. Send photos, get a written quote
Text or submit a photo of each stump, something for scale, and your address. We reply with a free written quote over the phone. Bigger jobs get a free on-site look first.
2. Pick a day
Marshall jobs often fit same-week. Outlying towns are grouped into route days so neighbors share the trip. We'll give you a real date, not a window of weeks.
3. Point out anything buried
Let us know about anything buried near the stump — sprinkler lines, dog fences, yard lighting. Point it out or show us on site, and we grind around it.
4. Setup and lawn protection
We check access, gate width and ground conditions. If the ground is too soft and we'd rut your lawn, we'll say so and reschedule rather than tear it up.
5. Grind below grade
The grinder takes the stump down roughly 6–10 inches below ground, including the root flare. Surface roots get ground out too if they're part of the job.
6. Cleanup, backfill and seed
We rake the area and pile or haul the grindings, whichever you choose. With backfill, we pull grindings out of the hole, add soil and seed it so the spot grows back into lawn.
