A lot of tree services drop the tree, cut it into rounds, and call the job done. They don't grind stumps. They don't haul brush. They leave you with a pile of cleanup and a stump that's now in the way of everything.

That's where we come in. We work alongside (or after) any tree service in southwest Minnesota to grind the stump, pull the chips, and turn the disaster zone back into a yard.

The details

Working after a tree service

We coordinate with most local tree services in the area and we'll happily show up the day after they finish if you arrange it. A lot of homeowners save real money by hiring the tree service for the drop and us for the stump — the all-in-one quote is almost always pricier than splitting it.

If the tree came down in a storm or off the city right-of-way, we can usually be there within a week. Insurance jobs go faster — most carriers reimburse stump removal as part of the claim.

Storm damage cleanup

Big wind events take down older silver maples and cottonwoods every summer around Marshall. We're not a tree service — we don't climb or fell — but once the tree's down we'll grind the stump and clean the debris. Insurance documentation included.

After the city or utility company

Xcel, the city, and the rural electric coops cut trees off lines and right-of-ways and almost never grind the stumps. We do that work all the time. Bring us the address and we'll handle the rest.

What the fellers leave behind, and what it takes to fix

A typical drop-and-go leaves three things: a stump cut 8–14 inches proud of the ground, a ring of chainsaw chips and bark, and rounds too heavy for one person to roll. The stump is the easy part — the wheel takes it to 6–10 inches under grade in half an hour. The rounds and brush are the time sink. Loading a full boulevard silver maple's worth of wood is usually 60–90 minutes of trailer work, and it's what turns a $120 stump call into a $300–$550 cleanup, depending on how many trailer loads leave the property.

Sequencing with the tree crew

The ideal order is: crew drops and bucks the tree, we come the next day while the ground is still open and the ruts are fresh, grind the stump, load the wood, then topsoil and seed the whole disturbed footprint at once. Trying to grind the same day the tree comes down usually wastes everyone's time — there's a pile of wood sitting on top of the stump. If you're getting quotes, know that the split approach (their bid for the drop, ours for the stump and cleanup) almost always beats a single all-in number.

Depth, backfill, and getting grass back

Cleanup jobs get a 6–10 inch grind, chips raked into the void, two to three inches of topsoil crowned over it, then seed. Do that in September or late April in this part of Minnesota and you'll have coverage in three to four weeks. Grind it in July and plan to water it daily or wait until fall to seed — grindings dry out fast in a Marshall summer.

Where this stops and other services start

We don't climb, fell, or take limbs off standing trees — that's a tree service and we'll name a couple of good ones. This service starts the moment the wood is on the ground. If it's only the stump you need and the wood is already gone, book standard grinding instead and save the haul cost. If a storm did it and there's an insurance claim behind it, tell us up front so the invoice is itemized for the adjuster.
