What we actually do in Ivanhoe

civic-block work: courthouse grounds, church campuses, and small-town main street

Ivanhoe is small — under 600 residents — but it punches above its weight for the kind of work we do. The courthouse block, St. Genevieve's campus, the school, and the handful of small commercial buildings downtown all sit inside a ten-block core with mature boulevard trees that were planted when the town was laid out. When one of those trees comes out, the stump left behind is usually on public or institutional property, which means the call comes from a facilities contact rather than a homeowner, and it comes with paperwork — COI, additional-insured naming, sometimes a purchase order. We're set up for it. Outside the civic core Ivanhoe is farm country, and we get the same shelterbelt and fence-line work we do all across Lincoln County. The trip out from Marshall is 40 minutes on MN-19, which is far enough that we prefer to batch Ivanhoe visits with Tyler, Canby, or Porter rather than making the drive for a single stump. Two or three addresses on the same day makes the trip fair for everyone.

The details

Working on church and courthouse grounds — the small stuff that matters

Grinding a stump on the front lawn of St. Genevieve's or on the courthouse boulevard is different from grinding one in a private backyard, in ways that don't show up until you're on-site. Three things we default to on institutional work in Ivanhoe.

One, timing. We don't grind during weekday services, funerals, weddings, or courthouse business hours unless specifically told to. Church jobs go Monday–Thursday morning; courthouse jobs go early or after 5. Nobody wants a grinder running during a memorial service.

Two, foot-traffic control. Downtown Ivanhoe is walkable and people cut across boulevards. We set out cones and, on bigger jobs, keep a spotter watching pedestrians. Wood chips fly further than most people expect from a stump grinder.

Three, finish quality. Public property has higher expectations for how the site looks when we leave. Sidewalks blown clean, mulch either raked flat or fully hauled, no ruts in the turf. Included in every civic quote, not an add-on.

FAQ

Ivanhoe — questions we get from property managers

Yes. We carry the liability coverage county and city work requires and can provide a COI naming the entity as additional insured, usually same-day.
